Default Ignition problem

The key will open the door but will not turn the ignition (Also the steering wheel goes up and down when I try to turn the key)

Any suggestions?

Sounds like the key and transponder have lost sync. Do you have another key to verify if it is the key or the Security Module? If not I suspect you are going to get another one programed and synced to the car. A very high end locksmith is going to be required or a dealer.

Thanks Test Point for the information. The key now turns 1 position but nothing. The battery is good. The key locks and unlocks the door. When the door is looked the beep of the alarm set sounds. I don't have a spare key. Since the door locks and alarm sets is that still a potential indicator that the key and transponder have lost sync?

The key has a chip inside that is electronically queried by the ignition security system and must provide the response expected by that system. The door lock is a normal cut key lock.

Again thanks for the help and information Test Point. I was able to start the car after reading another forum that suggested that I turn the steering wheel and see if that worked. IT WORKED.
This was the explanation I read (What is happening is that the steering colum/ignition lock is binding because the lock mechanism is being subjected to torsional loads from the load placed on the steering colum/igniton lock from the front tire/wheel asssemblies. Just give the steering wheel a tug to the left or right(which removes the load/binding from the ignition lock) and hold it in place and then the key will cycle completely and the engine will start. )

Again I'd like to thank the forum for their help and I'd appreciate any other suggestions.

Sorry, guess I miss interpreted your meaning in the original post.
. . . but will not turn the ignition . . . .
Guess you meant that the key would not turn the ignition lock to the start position.
