Smile ignition switch remove.

I am considering to removal the ignition switch on my 2000 XK8, I believe I need to give it a good cleaning. Have had problems with battery discharge for some time now and believe it is the switch. My main instruments do not light up when they should. They flash on and off. And the radio has been without a fuse to keep the battery from running down. Has anyone done this cleaning? And if so I would like any suggestions as how to avoid problems/

Have you checked the trap door to the ignition switch? This is the usual suspect in these types of scenarios. The trap door remains stuck open, powers the radio and prevents the car from entering low power mode. I believe silicone or graphite based products can be a cure.

Too bad someone(Jagexpress??) doesn't come up with a push button replacement for the keyed in switch. A key fob, and a button to replace key would be a GREAT replacement.
