Default Ignition Switch Sleeve

if you haven't seen the ignition switch sleeve, here it is. It snaps over the white area of the back of the switch's "tumbler"

Jose, the first job on my to-do list when I get home in April is to rebuild my ignition switch. So things like this are of benefit to me so when I get in there I know what to expect. I assume the sleeve is rubber and streches enough for me to pull it off the tumbler and put it back when finished?

Yellow series3 the sleeve is vinyl, it has a little stretch, but very little, and as it gets old it will crack. So you need to be very gentle with it. It "snaps" into the tumbler, to unsnap it is the issue, that is when it cracks. Most cars don't even have it because it has been broken when replacing the switch, I don't know how neccessary it is, but it must be there for a reason.

my trick to remove it is this:

disconnect the battery, very important.
disconnect the plug from the main harness.

with a very small flathead screwdriver, insert it through the back edge and leverage the screwdriver to pull backwards while pushing the screwdriver UP gently..It should unsnap.
