Have you ever considered doing it yourself? It really is not difficult and I, and any number of other forum members would be happy to talk you through it.

Hello and thanks,

I think the most difficult part of it is the possible loss of cam timing and not doing the chains, lower tensioners and water pump at the same time. I have nearly 80,000 on my 97 with absolutely no noises or problems, but juat reading the problems on this forum caused the urgency to change all.

The secondary tensioner replacements are within the abilities of many owners. The full chain replacement is a pretty major repair, however.

Thankfully, the full chain replacement is not nearly often required as just the secondary tensioner replacement.

It's just a shame that there's no easy way to inspect the secondary tensioners without removing the valve covers. At that point, you could almost complete the repair with just a little more effort.

Many thanks! I took the risk of failure and completed it myself. Was not that bad although time consuming (approx. 5 1/2 hours). I am told not bad for first timer......had a ball doing it and had the chance to clean , change plugs, etc. Seems to be fine!

Could not have done it or would have started it without this great forum! Many helpful guys that have taken the so-called experts (factory..??) methods and have revised to a better standard.

Thanks to all that helped me through!!!!
