I brought the lca to a local shop and had them press in the new joints and bushings. However, the left lca seems to look as if it will go in with a lot of persuasion (it is an extremely tight fit) while the right lca has the a bushing cylinder running interference with the inner aluminum support structure attached to the car.
When I picked them up they looked fine, but then I remembered the different part numbers for rear and forward lca bushings. I called him and he said he mic'ed them out and they were the same.
Any thoughts on the installation of the extremely tight fit and the bushing cylinder running interference?
Thank you in advance.
OPA1,
Perhaps a silly question, but did they put them on the right way round?
I did a Poly bush change and had exactly the same problem, the forward bush has a thicker portion that should be on the INSIDE as shown.
Failing that, if it is just the inner cylinders of the bush that don't fit the sub-frame mount, then they are definitely too big?!
Thank you both for your replies.
1. As to the extremely tight fit of the left lca, I did as Pkwise has shown. I separated the lca into its two sub components and it went in like butter. However, I must say that separating them was no picnic.
2. The right side, now that is a horse of a different color. I followed the same procedure as above and discovered that there was approximately 3/16" space separating the two mating faces of the lca. So the Sherlock in me has deduced that yes, the bushings were switched when installed. (Forward for rear and vis-a-versa).
I have two new bushings being overnighted and hopefully I can finish the front suspension rebuild this weekend.
