Default Installing a soft top remote control module

Came across this product today (About - TheJagWrangler), which allows to remotely control the soft top operation. Sounds really neat.
Has anyone here installed this? How straightforward was it? How well does it work?
Thx in advance

This item, among other 'mods' was conceived and developed by White XKR. He is one of the biggest contributors of advice and help on this forum. Looking to get this mod somewhere in the near future along with his 'from fake to real' gauge mod. I do not think that you will be sorry with any of his work...

Default Remote top

FredXKR2006, This was one of the first mods I did. Fairly easy install and really worth it. I could not imagine not having this option on my vert.
Rev. Sam has a great video on the install, check it out it, is what convinced me to go ahead and install one.

Regards,

Karl

That's not the WHOLE story, Norri. It started in the thread below in post #122 with a suggestion by dibbit. I haven't seen him around in a while. I wonder if he has any idea that his suggestion has turned WhiteXKR into a business tycoon millionaire.

I installed one. It took about 3 hours and is the best addition I have made to my car. Highly recomended.

regards

Not to keep talking about my Saab, but it has half of the feature built in--it's possible to lower the top with the remote but not raise it. Apparently in the rest of the world it's possible to both raise and lower the top, but they disabled the raise feature on American cars due to liability reasons.

I like WhiteXKR's version better because on his device everything happens automatically after pressing the buttons. On the Saab you have to continuously hold down the button, and you have to be within about 10 feet of the car for it to work. So the couple of times I've used it I've ended up standing beside the car waiting for the operation to finish. And since I can't close the top with the remote, I can't do the cool James Bond thing where I hit the buttons and walk away in slow motion as the top closes behind me (with explosions and stuff happening in the background and gorgeous babes in bikinis staring at me with their mouths hanging open in awe).

Fred: I installed one as well, works flawlessly (knock on carbon fiber). It is extremely well built and was quite easy to install thanks to some very clear directions. I also converted the Nav to the 3 guages. THANKS STEVE!...As mentioned in another thread I am in the bay area and can demonstrate the top for you. Perhaps on Sunday 5/20 - check your PM.

Well it is an XK8/R convertible top so no one thread was going to contain the WHOLE story.

my car also has the remote module installed...works perfectly every time, and worth the cost and time to install. Its one of the few mods that I've done that 'added' value to the car. TBH, if I had to stay within 10 feet and hold the button down, I might as well be sitting down in the seat!

I agree. The second time I used it my hands were full. I pressed on the remote button to get the top to lower, then I realized I didn't have a third hand to open the door. So I stood there, outside the car, watching the top go down. Only after it finished could I release the button and open the car door. It totally defeated the cool James Bond slow motion effect I was hoping for.

Wow guys, thanks for the testimonials!

The truth is everthing on my website is a product of the great ideas and the encouragement from other XK owners from this forum. I never would have done this alone. I am delighted to have been able to help make your cars just a little bit better and more fun.

(Of course, Sam might be just a little jealous because I get BOTH the awestruck babes in bikinis AND a 70 foot yacht in the Carribean from my earnings as a business tycoon.)

Can I at least get a yacht ride out of my contributions? I'll bring my own bikini babe.

Thanks to MarcB for a great ride through the hills and for demoing the remote control module. Just ordered mine. Can't wait to install it!

Quick update: I received the remote control module last week, and finally got around to install it on Monday. Instructions were super clear and detailed. I felt like a car mechanic for a few hours, and made clear to my wife I was performing some super human hubby tasks (she didn't looked very convinced, but I know she was :-)
Very happy with the result: great product and I loved that ALL the necessary tools were included, down to the tape and clips. I was actually surprised the celebratory beer wasn't in the package!

we're proud of you fred! Was the wife impressed on the first true test out in the real world? Remember, no matter how hard it may be, DO NOT turn around and watch! Hit the buttons, listen for the chirp, and walk away with a swagger, then bask (smugly, yet quietly)

This is funny: reminds me of this: my station wagon has an automatic trunk, which you can close by clicking the button on it, provided you have the key within range of the sensor. After I first got it, I started doing the whole close/walkaway without turning/bask thing until one day I came back an hour later, and the trunk had remained stopped halfway from closing the whole time. Now I turn around once I'm far enough :-) I may do just that...
