Question as my car is a 2001. Does the following procedure apply which seems not to be working for my car.

Cluster test mode functions for a Jaguar XK8.

These apply to the 1997–2000 X100 XK8/XKR clusters.

Instrument Cluster Test Mode Functions

Enter Test Mode
1. Ignition OFF
2. Press and hold trip reset
3. Turn ignition to Position II (ON)
4. Hold 10 seconds until “TEST” appears
5. Release button
6. Press button to scroll through each test

Test List (1997–1999 XK8)
1 Gauge sweep Tachs, speedo, fuel & temp swing full scale
2 LCD segment check All LCD segments activated
3 Software version Internal cluster SW level
4 EEPROM checksum Diagnostic
5 Cluster coding / market Market/region code
6 VIN – part 1 First half of VIN scrolls
7 VIN – part 2 Second half of VIN scrolls
8 Engine coolant temperature °C
9 Fuel level (raw value) Not gallons/liters—hex or numeric
10 Battery voltage Typically ~13.5–14.5V running
11 Vehicle speed (digital) km/h reading from ABS
12 Tachometer digital RPM reading
13 Odometer checksum Diagnostic

didnt work on mine.. but if you press and hold the A/B button you should get cluster part number and firmware info. thats all mine will do

 

It's not applicable to the XK8 range. Only S Type, XJ and X type within specific VIN ranges
