Default Intermittent ASC & TRAC errors, ABS warning, despite rebuilding ABS module

Hi Everyone,

I'm getting ASC and TRAC yellow error faults on the dash, as well as an ABS yellow warning, intermittently, for an unknown reason. Will be on one day, go away the next, sometimes will come on during a drive or be on from startup, going on for over 2 months now.

- per a parking lot test the wheels do indeed lock up, so when the warning is on ABS indeed seems to be off

- I tried rebuilding the ABS module per the guide below (resoldering the main power leads on the module's board). No effect.
http://gusglikas.com/images/AutoRepa...e%20Repair.pdf

- there are no leaks or any other indicators of any kind. As mentioned, it's intermittent, so when the "bug" isn't happening the braking and ABS does work fine

- turning the wheel lock to lock does not change anything, if that matters

Any thoughts or input? Thanks guys!

Why not try having the chassis (c) codes pulled from the abs module instead of just guessing. No a generic obd2 scanner wont do it. You either need a dealer or shop with abs code reading availabilty. Then come back with what codes are there, otherwise youre just wasting time and money

Default Intermittent ABS/Trac Light

pomosv;
As Brutal states, a dealer code reader (more sophisicated) will pinpoint the problem.
After encountering the same situation and performing sensor cleaning and voltage checks, the last item I checked and filled to the max line was the brake fluid reservoir, and I haven't had the problem since. While I cannot pinpoint, specifically, that filling the reservoir corrected the intermittent light, I'm just throwing this out as an easy item to check that is associated with the brake system.

Thanks for the tip, can anyone recommend any cheap ABS code readers out there?

There's only one jag dealership about 2 hours away from me, so I'd like to give some common fixes a shot first - are there any common reasons for the ABS/ ASC/TRAC faults that I can check? I remember hearing something about the sensors (and/or was it some wheel sensors maybe?) Thanks for the brake fluid level tip Jag13 - I'll go give that a shot right now.

Also, I noticed the problem may be happening more around freezing temps...

Hey Pomosv, Did you ever figure it out? I have the same issue and it seems to be getting worse by the day.

Have you tested the battery?

Hi.

Check battery, should be at least 12.1V after 8hr rest.
Disconnect connectors both at ABS module (two) and wheelspeed sensors. Check for bent pins. Spray sparsly with contact spray.
Check harness resistance and integrity, also while moving steering wheel. Resistance varies with model year, but should be approx. same for all four.
Clean wheelspeed sensors.
Do a hard reset.
Your ABS module may be shot despite having resoldered the two pump connectors. Can be rebuilt.
More information in FAQ section.

I went through the ATC not avail and ABS problem. The Dealer diagnosed a bad sensor and link lead on the left front. The cheapo aftermarket warranty co. inspector would not allow the lead replacement so only the sensor was changed. The problem went away for about 6 months and then came back. I then changed the link lead on the left front wheel sensor myself since the Dealer thought it was bad earlier. The wires break internally after awhile and this starts happening. This is a cheap part ($25) and a 10 minute repair. It has gone a year with no problem.

I've had the same problems lately. My jag mechanic up the street had a computer that said the left rear sensor. I cleaned all four sensors and it went away so far in the last 2 days. I made sure the wiring harness to the ABS module was fit well and that the harnesses to the sensors were not broken etc.

Actually easy to get to the front sensors just turn the wheels to one side and you can get to them to clean and inspect them. The rears require removing the wheel. I checked the battery with a multimeter before that while running and cold, checked out fine. I think you'd notice other things going wrong if it was a battery like the windows wouldn't set right etc. There's a good guide somewhere here on cleaning the sensors.

I'd look very closely at the L rear wheel bearing assembly, it wears allowing the abs pickup to get 'wonky' (technical term) followed by error message.

Wow, it's an alternate universe ! They seem to be speaking some ancient dialect of English, and everything is a mirror image. Dude seems to know Jags though.
