I recently bought a nice 2001 XK8, and soon found out that the built in navigation is actually obsolete with no new maps available. So I watched some movies on Youtube about people replacing their navigation system with something else, not an easy thing to do!

So how about the iPhone? I have an iPhone 5, and tried to fit it in my dashboard, on top of the nav screen. And guess what, it fits perfectly on top of the nav screen, like it is made for that position. The on off button of the iPhone is best positioned at the left. It hooks behind the wood panel, and keeps the phone in place, it will never fall out. It takes some fiddling to remove the phone again. But now I can use my cell phone number in the car, with a Bluetooth connection to a hands free device on my visor. Ideal. And navigation works the same, TOMTOM gives its messages to the same hands free device. And even a clock can work on the iPhone screen to give the classic look. Here are some pictures! I am now trying to work out how to fix a permanent lighting'' power cord to the phone, positioned behind the wood panel. I think it should be possible. Any suggestions appreciated.
