Default issues with ODB reader

Hey all,

I had a 'rough start' issue when leaving work yesterday, so this morning I went out and purchased an 'Actron PocketScan Plus' to pull codes and see what was happening.

The car ran fine this morning, and when I pulled back into my parking spot I got the dreaded 'Restricted Performance' message.

I hooked up the Actron, and followed the directions. I get the 'Reading..' then I get 'Link Error'. I followed the trouble shooting (turn key off for 10 seconds, then back on, and press Read), and still get link Error.

Does anyone have any experience with this reader, that may be able to help me out.

The manual that came with it is about as useless as a submarine with a screen door.

Thanks,

Marc

One piece of info. The last thing I did was stop for gas, where I usually fill up. As I said, the car ran fine for the 10 or so miles I drove before stopping for gas. I live less then 1/2 mile from the gas station, and the restricted performance light came on as I was parking the car.

It still ran fine (no stumbling or anything).

Not familiar with that particular brand of scanner. Try removing the cable from the scan port and reinsert. I had this issues when I first got my scanner, it is if the pins are dirty but goes away with a few inserts and remove.

+1 on cleaning - I had to spray the connector under the dash - just to get contact

ok, I tried cleaning the pins, still no go.

I decided to check on things like fluid levels (all good), gas cap (thinking I may have not put it on all the way) all good.

I started the car again, and while the check engine light is still on, as is the restricted performance message, I risked driving the car to the dump (taking out trash, less then 1/4 mile total) the car has full power, and drove just fine.

I am really confused to say the least.

Could it have some thing to do with moisture? it has been raining here pretty much non stop for the past 4 days.

clean the contacts on the TBS and mass air sensor to be safe. If you haven't done it already.

Ok, I do believe it had something to do with moisture, and possibly a bad battery.

My doors started having issues, with not rolling the windows down when trying to open the door, and the lock not being unengaged.

The last couple days have been dry and very warm. This morning, I went to get into the car, and she fired right up, no restricted performance message, and no check engine light.

I am replacing the battery next week, and trying to get a garage space so I can keep her out of the rain as much as possible.

I still cannot get the ODB port to allow me to pull codes
