J gate micro switches.

J gate micro switches.
I have a 1999 X100 / XK8.
Recently have had the dreaded P1642 , P1797 & P1111 code with check engine light and transmission failure mode, stability control message, and fail safe mode. AFter doing some research here and other sites. I removed the J gate and found the 3 micro switches. The one located at 12 O'clock has a roller assembly to actuate the switch. The other 1 are located at the right side of the J gate. The upper one has a long lever and the lower one has a short lever. Is this the correct configuration or are both upper and lower supposed to have a long lever? Thanks

Why are you pulling your shifter shroud? You need to look your codes up and understand what the codes are telling you. You do not want to mess with the micro switches. Use the links below.

The first thing I would do is check your battery AutoZone, Advance Auto and sears can do that.

Which has the long lever?
Thanks for the info, I have checked the function of all the switches and they seem to work properly by the meter attached. My question is the P switch has a long lever and the N switch has a short lever. Is this the correct configuration or are both P & N supposed to have the long lever?

Update on P codes, fail safe mode, transmission failure mode & Stability abs failure messages. I unpluged both the ECU , TCM and Traction / ABS module several time to make sure that any corrosion on the contacts were cleaned off. I then left the battery unpluged over night. Next morning I connected the battery. Retrained the windows. Started the car up and took it for a short drive to see if any of the error messages would rear it's ugly self. The car ran fine. So far so good. A week + has gone by and about 70 miles and so far so good. Hope this took care of the problem. The stability and ABS still comes on intermittently. This one may be more difficult to fix.
