Jaguar 2003 XKR engine blown will a 2004 fit straight in ?
Hi All
My Jaguar XKR love affair is being sorely tested .
Ive had the misfortune of requiring a new/ replacement engine for ( my supposedly Bullet proof AJ34 engine ( which isn't and requires a complete rebuilt at the very least reboring new pistons and rings etc ..
The prognosis is it was over heated now engine is completely striped down into a thousand pieces .
After spending lots replacing things ahead of time it seems all to no avail ,additionally the vehicle showed no signs of overheating or warnings at all , it just stalled doing a 3 point turn after a highway run ...all water under the bridge now.
After reviewing many options ie importing secondhand engines with similar paying big money for engine, freight and customs duties its appeared the best way to go was to rebuild
That however this route was being stymied due to the lack of oversize pistons &ring sets still chasing them both here in Aussie and the UK & USA .
After months of frustration it appears i've may have found a low 62000 klm secondhand engine here in the Southern Hemisphere from a 2004 model XKR
So while i'm still shelling out money for an unknown engine its at least local and the low Klms "should mean" its ok vehicle was rear ended
Can anyone advise me if this 2004 engine will just drop in my 2003 and be good to go ?
Searching the net i can't see any dramatic changes that should complicate the process but i'm fast discovering
Of course the "Car Wrecker /Dismantler "swears on his mothers grave all will be ok ...reckons it ran when in the car ,but only offer a vague 3 month warranty.
Thanks lets know your thoughts

I don't know what the cost might be in OZ versus importing if available, but I was helping a friend of my dad's rebuild the engine on his Diablo and he actually ordered custom oversize pistons and rings. Here's an example of one of those places (I forget who he used): JE Pistons Manufactures Quality Forged Pistons for the Domestic Automotive, Sport Compact, Powersports and Racing Markets
