Default Jim's Jag

After lurking around this forum for a few months, and reading the good and bad stories, I have taken the plunge and joined the XKR owner's club. There just aren't any green coupes in So. Cal. and I found this one in Florida. Its got the usual wear and tear of a 16 y/o car, and it's going to need some TLC. I'm past the age of doing a lot of wrenching, so I will use the services of a Jag specialist. If I have have problems, the first place I will go will be the members of this forum.

Well found! Like you, I really wanted a BRG coupe. Mine had to be 2003 or later. The only one I could find was an iffy sounding one at a used car dealer in the Southeast. I thought I'd found a 2005 XKR in BRG in So Cal but it turned out to be Jaguar Racing Green (metallic). I didn't think I could live with that so settled, finally, for a black 2006 coupe (non-R) and had to go to Portland for it and drove it home to Nor Cal.

Welcome. I'm only a week ahead of you on the adventure. Already decided I need to add a coupe someday and brg would be the way to go. For now my Slate convertible will have to do.

Ok, here's my first set of questions: there were no floor mats, and carpet is a different color from the seats. What color/shade should the mats be? and where the best place to buy them?
2nd-I've attached a couple of broken bits, the visor mirror door, the seat adjustment button and the enclosure that goes around the seat belt latch. How can these be fixed/repaired/replaced?
Lastly, the pass. visor clip is broken, is it possible to buy a new one somewhere?

I bought a set of custom made mats from a company in Chatsworth. they are super plush, heavy, non-skid & really well made. The carpet is so thick and dense, I actually drive barefoot! They are way better than what the dealer had. BUT, they do not do a logo, which for me was fine, since it just gets really dirty...

ask for Chris, $140 for 2 front mats...not cheap, but apparently custom made to order, & fit like a glove... so allow a few weeks...818-998-2100

for rear mats, i just got a cheap pair from Autozone since no one sits back there except my handbag

Source for parts on Ebay...the seat button on mine was broken, not sure if you can fix it, but a new unit is $600 from the dealer...if it just popped off, Gorilla Glue or Epoxy might hold it.

visor clip may be a Ford part,,,or perhaps a dab of silicone will hold it tighter? finding compatible parts is like an Easter egg hunt

Jim, looked at the photo. I see that the front switch (moves seat back and forth) is disconnected. Does the square stalk still protrude from this switch covering's position? If so, look at back of the item in your photo. You will see it has a square female receptacle molded in. Likely will find that one "wall" of this square area has fractured. Without that properly sealed there is too much play in the connection.

Here's the problem, whatever you use must bond to plastic and must not wick into the receiving area (or you'd never get the thing back on).

No you should not just fill it with glue- this needs to remain removable.

Now that sets the stage. This one's on my to do list too. Ttytt I forgot about it. I may use Goop brand glue, it is flexible and can be broken. IOW it's not that permanent. Without access to micro clamps, I'm not sure how one could rebuild the square receptacle with the precision needed to have it work as designed.

I suppose I am making an assumption about the one failure point, if I'm wrong just let us know.

Think I'll work on mine today now that you reminded me.

John

So what color of mats did you get? in your interior the same color/shade as mine?

my interior is charcoal black... the saddle color may look nice in yours?

they can mail you samples so you can see color and texture.

these are much better quality than what the dealer has.

So, my seats are cashmere, the code SDZ, am I right in saying the carpet color is sable?

Yes sable is correct carpet color for SDZ code.

If you use PBF's guy and he can match the sable color I might be a customer too. I currently have Lloyd's Ultimats in Neutral color and they are really nice but slightly lighter in color than the sable carpet.

an update: i bought the Bahama color mats from Cal Car Covers. the color was a good match, but the mats themselves were terrible. My car has a single hook on each side, the driver's mat had two grommets that did not even come close to matching and the pass mat didn't have any grommets at all. Plus, the actual fit was poor. I am awaiting CCC's response to the situation. So far, I am disappointed.

My brake rotors and pads were at the minimums. My indy Jag shop quoted me about $1200 to replace. I ended up buying Centric rotors and pads from Parts Geek for $225 and having my non-Jag mechanic install them for $250. Big savings and the brakes work fine-no problems at all!

Did you get the extra thick mats from Lloyd's???

If so, they are super thick and with the rubber backing, they won't move AT ALL, even without the grommet. I didnt even use my fasteners since the fit was perfect. Also, they are custom made, so they fit tightly, like a glove. I am not sure which you got, but if they fit poorly, perhaps there is a mistake?

I can take pics of my mats tomorrow if you wish to see the quality of the Lloyds. i LOVE them. FAR superior to the OEM mats!

the mats were from Lloyd, but the Bahama color was not shown as available in the "super thick" style.

Below is a pic of my Lloyd's Ultimat in Neutral color. Mine fit extremely well and have the correct single eyelet for my model year.

Jim I have to think that you got the wrong mats. Lloyds has a stellar reputation for fit and finish.

In the pic I laid my Ultimat color samples for
  • Neutral
  • Bahama
  • Coffee
  • Sable

I chose the neutral because I felt that best matched the overall interior even though it is not an exact match for the Jaguar Sable carpet color in my SDZ interior. The Bahama is just a bit darker with a touch of gray compared to my carpet.

Here is a closer pic of the samples

Hope this helps you sort it out.
