Jinxed Myself - Roof Stuck!
Hi All,
Well after posting ” I’ve had 2 years of trouble free driving“yesterday I think I provoked the Jaguar gremlins a bit too much. Hours after I posted my Code 49 air bag issue and getting some great info back I was walking to my car and pressed the remote top and it started to lower as usual (has to be the best mod for a rag top - thanks White XKR).
I realized it was staring to spit rain so I raised the roof with the manual switch about half way through the opening process. It would not close all the way stopping short of reaching the latch by an inch, the rear windows would not raise either. I checked the 40A fuse and it is fine, opened the petcock valve but the roof won’t budge more than 2-3 inches. I don’t know how much pressure I should exert on it to close manually without damaging it, it feels quite hard to move? Anyone out there with any advice?
Regards,
Karl

Yeah, I had the same issue once when I opened my top but was in a hurry and hadn't noticed the latch didn't close... later the top wouldn't close all the way until I reopened it ALL THE WAY and then it closed fine.

If you open the valve and wait about 15-30 minutes or so the system should de-pressuruze enough to let you move it manually. This is never made clear in the owner's manual.

First of all you need to check the reservoir to make sure the level of the fluid is between the two embossed lines. You are saying the roof is near closed and if that is the status then open the petcock and with 2 fingers open the roof completely and park the latch, when that is done close the petcock verify the fluid level and do a hard reset. Once that is done get in the car and press and hold the closed button. This is provided you do not have a hose failure if you do let us know.

Steve, it could be that the rams are locked and he does have a leak at the latch. Not knowing the MY car it is equipped with airbag body sensors in the header light area and because he has a code it might mean the fluid has gotten to it. I would need additional info on that.

Great! Now the roof!!!
I moved the seat back and forward the and the code disappeared for several hours leading me to believe it is a bad connection in the seat wiring or the position sensor. I have read all the precautions on the forum re airbag safety and will follow it diligently.
Thanks again for the help.

Update: I tried to push the roof back but still would not budge ( the petcock had been open overnight night). I resorted to pushing it open abut 4 inches and use Allen key to open the latch and lowered the roof clip in to it....Presto it works. I lifted my driver seat about 1/2 inch up went for 2 hour drive an no airbag code 49.
Thanks to all the people on this wonderful forum for their help.
