I am thinking of buying a XK8 or an XKR so I thought a good place to start was to join a forum of fellow Jag lovers. That is why my "what car have you got" bit is blank. I actually drive a E39 BMW at the moment but very tempted with the XKR and XK8. Plan to buy one soon.

So any advice as to which one to buy, or not too, would be welcomed. Not into performance just want a nice ride with a good looking car.

I live near Malvern in Worcestershire England.

I look forward to many interesting and informative chats to you guys.

My pockets are not that deep. But I wish to get one younger than my current car. So anything after say 2002 to about 2006 when I believe the car changed? I have also heard that the 4.0 cars had problems and have been advised to go for the 4.2 XKs.

Thanks for the reply

Welcome to the forum Frank,

For the years 1996-2006, you want the XK8/XKR forum. I've moved your question from XK/XKR 2006 onwards to XK8/XKR forum. Members here with this model will be able to help.

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Plenty out there. Enjoy the search.

Graham

Hi, and Welcome!
I have a 2002 XK8 and LOVE it. I too wasn't concerned with the performance and the standard XK8 was the perfect car for me. Although I have extensively altered with body kits and wheels and such.
The main thing is to get one that has had the tensioners (the main issue with the 4.0) either replaced or make sure your engine build date (not the car model year) is after Aug of 2001. THat's when Jaguar fixed the issue.

Thanks for that. I also understand there were a lot of issues with the 4.0 but not with the 4.2?

At the top of the forum page are the "stickies" with loads of common issues and things to know. The one you want is XK8 & XKR 'HOW TO' / DIY Repair & Maintenance Links / Facts & Data. It has several links talking about what to look for and avoid with these cars.

I have a 2001 4.0L and would not hesitate to buy the same MY again. However, newer can be better and the 4.2L engines was improved. Bigger difference was between the normally aspirated (XK8) engine and the supercharged (XKR). Different beasts when you put your foot into it.

Good Luck with the hunt and you have found the right place for advice.

I fall at the first hurdle. Can I guess that a TSB is a Technical Support Bullitin (excuse the spelling) ? In PDF Format?
