Default Key Transponder Module

Powered up my flood project 03 XK8 yesterday & am happy to report no burning or arcing wires, dash lit up trunk & door lights worked, power windows, turn signal & wipers. I didn’t leave it energized for long or moved key past accessory to try & start it. I went to the trunk to plug in my replacement Security & locking control module & noticed no Key Transponder Module (unfortunately there are a few other connections with nothing attached, but one crisis at a time) kind of figured my new/replacement key remotes won’t be able to be programmed !
Can the car be started without the key transponder module, would I in fact still be able to “re-program” the security & locking module with my new remotes? Will any aftermarket Key Transponder Module work?

You won't 'notice' a missing KTM, unless it was relocated in later years. Mine is impossible to see even when you're looking for it, being above the left hand fascia (dashboard) fuse box and behind the a/c vent. And no, the car will not start without it. It receives and parses the signal from the transponder exciter coil, then communicates with the BCM to answer the challenge query.

The wire “grouping”(for lack of a better description) for The Security & Locking Control module has a total of 5 plugs 3 of which connect to The Security & Locking Control Module, of the remaining two one is clearly identified on pg 27 of the 2003-2005 Model Year Electrical guide: XK Range 2003 Control Module Pin Identification.
This page diagrams: Body Processor Module,Security & Locking Control Module, & the Key Transponder Module.
So, will a replacement KTM work? & will the Auto Enginuity ScanTool help me to get all these module’s communicating properly?

The KTM is so difficult to get to I seriously doubt anyone would have removed it. When you go looking for it you have to be very dedicated to even see a fraction of it. If the car was that far under water all I can say is Good Luck with your project.

I would be very hesitant to replace the KTM with one that doesn't have matching part numbers. If a replacement doesn't work what do you do next? Be certain to check every single fuse and its connection thoroughly. A bad fuse or weak connection will keep the KTM from functioning.

I highly doubt there are any aftermarket KTMs available.

Regarding "Auto Enginuity", I'm not familiar with that tool but I wouldn't expect it to be as robust as the native OE tool, especially when it comes to programming and security features. I've got the native tool and it requires an additional module that I no longer have access to in order to accurately diagnose the KTM.

Sorry Guys my bad, the other plugs go into the parking aid module which was pulled off from it's proper location & was laying off in another part of the trunk. I bought the car off the internet & had it shipped to me, since the trunk got dunked I received it with the trunk pulled apart as they were trying to air things out,so it's a bit of a mess back there. My apologies. I do need to post some pic's to get help identifying some other plugs with no apparent mates. Thanks again
