Keyless entry problems

Unhappy Keyless entry problems

I have a 1999 XKR Coupe which I bought 6 months ago. It came with two keyless entry tags. One doesn't work at all, and the other works only when you are very close to the vehicle and sometimes not at all. I have replaced the batteries in both units.

Can anyone tell me where to get new units at an affordable price?

If you are talking about the key fob (remote), you may need to reprogram your fob. Just do a search of key fob programming here on the forums.

If you have cleaned the inside of both your fobs and the programming doesnt work, then you may be facing another problem other then the fob which is the Security Locking Module (i believe thats what its called) located in the trunk under the fuse box next to the battery.

You can check and see if the attenna is connected properly to the module. If all looks connected then you may want to consider purchasing a new one on ebay. They dont run much - I believe $149 tops but depends on what year... hope this helps..

Clean the black buildup off of the gold switch contact areas of the circuit board inside the key fobs with alcohol. That fixes the problem in many cases.

Had exactly the same issue I cleaned fobs and still
Nothing. Only some buttons worked but only very close to car.
Bought new fobs, not used, off ebay, reprogrammed them. All's perfect now!

Cleaning works best on the early fobs that have black carbon buttons inside.

The later fobs with switches often need the switches replaced (they are about a buck on ebay).

You know you might want to try the flip key mod. I've done several of these now (they are kind of fun to do) and you end up with a newer generation key and remote. The parts aren't bad on eBay and all you need are a few tools and time.

You guys are good... the fob that was working had a greasy black residue under the buttons...cleaned it.

The fob that wasn't working had no obvious residue but I cleaned it anyway and bugger me it works!!

Solve my radio problem gentlemen and win a lounge suite!... see separate thread.
