Default License plate removal experiment

FYI I'm down in Myrtle Beach and temps in the high 90's, since I'm from NJ I am required to run with two plates, I removed the front plate and ran in traffic with AC on and off in both instances it lowered my operating temps by 3 or 4 degrees
On my car the plate blocks a significant section of flow to the radiator, now running a little cooler .......AND looks better

Not surprising at all. Maximum airflow through the grill is vital to the cooling system on most vehicles. Sure glad that North Carolina requires only a rear license plate....

Guys & Gals!
My XKR Coupe came stock without a License Plate Bracket on the Front and I am going to keep it that way......Strange thing is....there's one in the Boot/Trunk...so I threw that other License Plate in there with it! To keep it Company......

I pay $50 a year for the privilege of not having a front plate.

Don't forget the practical reality. If you live in a state that requires 2 plates and you choose to display only one, you are more likely to fall prey to the more "revenue" type of tickets, like when parked on the street or in public parking facilities, etc. Same goes for plates positioned inside the cabin and showing through the windshield, plates on hinges, doubled-up plates on the back (officer, my car does have 2 plates!), etc. It is going to be at the discretion of some enforcement person, dispensing these tickets mechanically, with no one around to advocate how rational your situation is. Another fear, as I understand it, is that if the state requires 2 plates, showing only one raises the possibility of the other plate being used on another car...

Thank you for this thread. I have pointed this out several times on this forum. But had no proof as I was a law violater and didn't put one on my car Until recently. This last year I got two warnings and had to make a mount that kept the plate below the opening. It is not my final design but works for now with tie wraps holding it on. Will send pics when I get it finalized.

Yes, I too live in a state with two plates. Unlimited tickets otherwise. I recently lowered my front plate which allows more air into the radiator and acts more like an air scoop. So you have to bend down a bit to see it. Does lower temps a little at highway speeds.
