Default Lighted Wing Markers?

Behind the green wing emblems on my US spec. XK8 there are wiring harness leads. I presume these are for turn signals/running lights on Euro spec. vehicles.

Am I correct? If so, what is the part number for LH and RH units?

Thanks!

It's been done by several X308 owners including myself.

In the UK they are called "turn signal repeaters" so you can search for them on ebay.co.uk.

The turn signal repeater I found on eBay UK looks to be orange and without the Leaper. Is that the style?

For the X308, it is a simple rectangle with rounded corners and plain orange lens. The bulb is a 194 wedge.

If the seller says it is for the XK it probably is. Have a look around at a few listings to confirm, or go to the parts catalog for UK/ROW. Or see if one the UK members has a picture hanging around on JF of their personal ride.

On the US X308 the pigtail exists only on one side so you have to splice into the existing turn signal wiring. Mine are wired to come on as running lights, and flash on one side if the turn signal is activated.

When you buy them make sure they have the bulb holder.

Here in Europe, the small repeaters in the front wings are for the indicators, the large ones in the front and rear bumpers are non-functional side lights or passive reflectors. There are no leapers on any of them.

The small repeaters are available in orange, translucent white or crystal clear (which I have). The latter two require an orange bulb, but these can be sourced with a chrome effect to avoid the egg-yolk look, otherwise you can also spray the orange bulb lightly with some silver paint.

Here's an interesting pic

The lights are off - the fill-in flash caught the reflectors Frog mentions.
They've got wires running to them but are just reflectors.
Side running lights are illegal here - we had one member who failed his contrôle technique because of them but was able to remove them with Photoshop to pass !

Steve,

I can see there's a slight rise on the road which may affect the way your car sits but the front suspension looks very low.

The sill line on mine is parallel to the ground.

The reflectors still pick up the flash bounce.

^If you look at Steve's sigpic, you can see his front is relatively low. If anything, I think your car looks slightly higher than average, Graham, at least in the photo above...

Thread hijack! Yes I'm 20 mm low. Everything looks OK so I presume it must be tired springs.
Since I like the droop they can stay tired!

Ok, let me ask a question about the original thread topic!

I too want to replace my side leapers with repeaters. I've found several on eBay and adamesh and I'm confused as to the proper fit.
The ebay set says for XK8 AND S-type and available in clear or smoke.
Adamesh set is clear led, quite q bit more but I'm not sure if they include the repeater behind the wheel.
I'm upgrading my 02 black with the arden body kit so I'm trying to lose all the amber markers.

One other option is to replace the green leapers with black backed versions BUT do they exist. I have a set from my XJS but they're rectangle shaped so I'm not sure if I like them. I'm also considering the 08 vents that incorporate the repeater but WOW pricy!!

They are the same R-L and P/N is attached.

Euro cars have a repeater and no marker. US cars up to 2002 had a marker and no repeater. US cars 2003+ had both the marker lights and the repeater.

The parts were used on other Ford cars, so you find them listed as many things. I replaced my orange with a smoke color from ebay, which was listed as being for a Focus, among other things.

I get the picture now.

I like my leaper and don't like the orange/smoke solution. Still, the electrical connection is soooooo close. Maybe a little dremel work and 2 LED's at the front and back of the oval would give me something interesting. I wonder if the green plastic is translucent...

Sorry to barge in announced, spurlee and philhef, if either of you decide to go through with changing the leaper for side markers, can I buy your leapers? Someone stole the one on the passenger side of my car.

I'm in no rush at all. I checked ebay, but all I can find is the left side, not the right side. Are they the same? I have to wonder, from what point of view is left and right? Viewing the car from the front or the back?
