I will head for the well-regarded indie when I get out of my depth.

So far JagTechs. Friendly, knowledgeable, cooperative.

Have I mentioned that the dealer is the opposite of that?

This thread has more about Austin and Jaguars.

Good luck!
Tom

I just happened onto this thread this evening. Sorry for the delay in responding to you Teddy. I moved to Brentwood in '84 and started using an indie, and have been using him almost exclusively since. Donnie now owns Nolensville Auto Care, on Nolensville Rd in the middle of Nolensville (third building past the feed barn). We had the '91 XJ in the pic for 13 years, with very few issues and inexpensive maintenence; and the '95 XJ for 8 years with the same results. When I got the XK, the first order of business was the tensioners, and decided to do the complete timing chain job. His cost is always reasonable. I would highly recommend Donnie, and his the crew he's built there. Call him - 615-776-3646.

My experience with local BMW and Jaguar dealer, while they are knowledgeable and friendly, I can make no sense out of what the typical dealer service department charges for labor. If you look at the ALLDATADIY information for labor hours it does not track to what they actually charge. In comparison I have noticed our local Chevy dealer charges match exactly with the ALLDATADIY labor hours. In the past 20 years I have almost never used the dealer for any make car once the warranty is up. Mostly do it myself.

Just one example: replacement of Purge Valve on XK8 is shown on alldatadiy as 0.6 hours which is about what it took me, and a list cost of $93.00 for the valve. I have seen several references to dealer quotes of ~$400.00 to have the purge valve replaced.
