Default looking at an xk8. low oil pressure light?

Hey guys, I have had an 89 xjs since '07 and am looking for something newer.

I looked at a convertible 97 xk8 this weekend with 57k miles and I am not quite sure what I think about it...

I drove the car over the weekend and it is definitely a jag... (one of the power seats does not work, ac vents are broken, and a few other small things here and there are not right.)

The dealer is asking just under 13k. The price didn't seem too terrible until the low oil pressure light started to come on when siting at stop lights...

The car is now at a jag dealer being looked at. Is the car overpriced even if the problem is "fixed"? (who is to say the problem won't re-appear down the road?)

I've done some searching and have found that these cars have intermittent oil pressure sending units. As this is a problem that could be reproduced by sitting at a idle for a while, I do not believe the problem would be a sending unit going bad.

What do you guys think?? Should I pass and look for a better deal?

Thanks!
Cody

did you see brgjag's green 97 vert for sale? $10.5k, just a few more miles than that one, and never an oil pressure light. Anyway, look around and be an informed buyer as you proceed.

Well, I can add that I sold a '97 XK8 Convertible at exactly that mileage last October. I did all the timing chains, tensioners, chain guides etc.; and also the convertible top latch hoses in October 2009. Roughly $3700.00 worth of work. Car was basically flawless except for the driver seat bolster had some wear. Sold it to a fellow Jaguar Club member for $13,000 and we were both happy. What does that tell you?

Cheers,

$13K??? That seems steep even if it was in perfect condition. Do you know if the pensioners have been replaced? I'm pretty sure you can find a better deal.

High, especially in Florida. Without full documentation and verification of the key repair issues that is very high. Check out the FAQ sticky above for a list of things to confirm on these cars.

LMAO! I'm typing on my phone and it has this stupid auto-correct feature.

I have not seen her on the ballot, auto correcting pensioners.

But to answer the question I too think the price is high. Given that the black book on my 99 XK8 coupe with 80K is only a mear $3500.00 to $6800.00.

Keep looking the spring market is about to blossom!!!!!

$13k is steep for a 97, even with all the fixes. Should be able to get 00/01 for that kind of money. I paid $8k for my 97 and a lot of people would probably consider that too much.

Buy from from a private seller, and if possible one that has a documented history of the car. And I am not trying to sell you mine, just saying!

I bought my '03 with 72,000 miles from a private seller. He was asking $14K. I offered $13K and he accepted it (I hate when there's no counter-offer. Makes me think I should have offered less). The '03s had a new engine without the issues of the earlier engine. The 03-06 cars are generally less trouble than the 2002 and earlier cars. This dealer is trying to sell you a first model-year car for what I paid for my 2003 which is 6 years newer.

Check out all of these available in Florida for less than $10K
