the cheapest I’ve found one (USA) is $55 plus shipping for the item new. Still looking for a used one that’s for sale without the plastic holder underneath it.

Unless your customs people just ignore low value items, the exorbitant customs duties, taxes and handling fees that get added on, don't really make it worthwhile importing things from the UK. Since Brexit I've given up ordering anything from the UK as it isn't worth the hassle, unless it is something you simply can't get elsewhere. I'm going to buy a German car next time.

You could always improvise by cutting some self-adhesive non slip felt or rubber to size while you wait to find a replacement in the US - a 99 cent fix.

As far as sending to the US you would stuff it in a padded bag. go to UK post office and send air mail with declaration "rubber trim part " value $1.

Help the guy out and do that then. Autoreserve wouldn't.

Well done. By the way, if you did that on an item sent to Spain these days there would be a customs clearance fee even if they accepted that the declared amount was below the taxable threshold, thanks to Brexit.

It makes it a real PITA to get British made spares.

I think that's down to Spain not Brexit. I get stuff from Austria into UK that has no fees. I get stuff from China no fees. I got an expensive hat from the US no fees although it was marked as a gift (which it was). I think if you ask the supplier to mark as a gift then you should be fee free surely?

I'm no fan of Brexit but this sounds more like a problem in Spain rather than the EU overall as we send stuff to Austria without any issues I'm aware of.

Well before Brexit there was no customs controls between the UK and Spain for these type of goods. Nothing. Nada. Zero. No documentation needed, no import duties, no clearance fees, it was the same as sending something from London to Cardiff.

The UK now has the same customs regime that Spain has, because the EU and the UK have agreed the same tariffs on each others goods - however the UK doesn't have the staffing levels to enforce it - the EU do. Great news if you are an exporter in the EU selling into the UK, but not so great the other way around. Look up the customs formalities that the UK has delayed implementing if you are interested.

Suppliers, as Zray has found with Autoreserve, often don't want to bother with the customs paperwork and even if they did, they aren't going to fiddle the taxes for a customer's benefit, especially if it means that if the item is lost in the post, they won't get a refund for the actual value if they mark it as free. Even marking it as a gift, won't avoid it having to go through customs and having to pay the clearance fee, even if there is no duty.

You can do the customs paperwork online, which reduces the fee substantially (depending on the carrier you use), but the sender has to be willing and able to do it, and many of them want to charge for it, so it's a catch 22. Ok for big firms with the staff to do it, a PITA for small businesses.

BTW I just looked up DHL's charges for importing into the UK and they charge "Ł11.00 or 2.5% of the total Duty and/or VAT incurred, whichever is the greater." so even on something with no VAT or duty you pay Ł11, which goes back to my original point - smaller value items aren't worth bothering with. Its a shame, as one of the great things about our cars is that second hand spares are usually easy and cheap to get hold of.

Quite typical nowadays. The canine meds I ordered from the UK on January 20th took 28 days to get here. And that is with my order eventually being shipped from Germany because the PetMeds staff thought I would get them sooner rather than wait for their UK stock. Lucky for me that I was not planning to start these meds until March 1st....

I didn’t mind the wait. Things get lost in transit all the time, and have since the beginning of world trade. I just figured the part was in Singapore under a sack of old mail. Was a nice surprise when it came unexpectedly.
