the 8 cut tibbe is not a ford key in any way. most locksmiths do not have the machines for an 8 cut. make sure your blank uses an ID13 chip

This is what you need:
Second best is to work with a dealer. Everything is getting older, the challenge is to locate a shop that still has the equipment and personnel capable of working on this older model. Every urban area seems to have at least one British car specialty shop for older models. Worth checking as well.
Third option is to work this on the cheap. Locate an online provider for a TIBBE key. Check this forum's classified, or eBay. This is normally pretty cheap. The challenge is to determine the "code" to cut this key by. There are online TIBBE key decoders to explain how this works. It is pretty basic, really. Best DIY is probably to _carefully_ disassemble the key "tumbler" for the trunk/boot. The positioning of each of the internal disks matches the key code. Next is the MEGAMOS 13. These are normally available on eBay for very little money. The chip has to then be coded to the car with a suitable scanner. Fobs can be "programmed" to the car as described in the stickies, no special tools required.
Best of luck, keep us posted.
- A TIBBE 8-cut key made to this car. This will allow you to activate the mechanical part of all the locks (trunk/boot, doors and engine lock accessories)
- A anti-theft crypto chip MEGAMOS 13. Normally embedded in plastic part of the key. This will need to be coded to the car using specialty software. This will allow you to start the engine.
- A fob. Unfortunately, the pre-2001 fobs are specific to '97 to '00. They are more expensive, and of course getting older every day. It might need repair/cleaning as well.
