Lucas Electronics??
Hello all, I am new to this forum and a new Jaguar owner to boot. I just purchased a 97 XK8 Coup that is beautiful in and out and everything works on it. Has 46K miles on it. I have a question regarding the electronics. It is no secret in the auto world that Lucas electronics have been one of the major drawbacks of Jaguar vehicles over the years. I heard that Ford transitioned from Lucas and began using Ford electronics on their Jaguar line after they purchased the company but I am not sure when that transition occurred. My question is....does my 1997 XK8 Coupe have Lucas electronics in it or is it the Ford electronics? Thanks for any info you can provide.

Welcome to the Forum.
A great thing about our car is that some Ford parts fit and there's an entire Form "Sticky" thread listing OEM equivalent parts. Members too can chip in with info on what they found works for their cars.

As you seem to have a 1997 XK8 Coupe, it's the 1st of 3 generations of the X100 car, and as always the 1st Generation new models tend to have initial problems that are fixed in later models. I too have a 1999 XK8 First Gen, and it's a lovely home hobby mechanic's car - very interesting stuff. Most of my wiring connections have Ford stamped on them, so Lucas was long gone. Our Texan "elder statesman" BC says it's one of the best things that Ford did when they took over Jaguar.
As a member, you need to tell the Forum Moderators where you are, especially relevant as the UK have Left Hand Drive, whilst USA have Right Hand Drive. It makes a huge difference when we try to answer any problems you may find.
Hope to see you back soon, as I'm sure you'll have lots of questions.

I'd hope there's sufficient current discussion to avoid any necessity to resurrect another "Guest" troll thread from 2007!
