I use Chevron's Techron Fuel Injection Cleaner periodically. Does it really make a difference, who knows? It's like voodoo; you'd like to believe that it doesn't work, but why take the chance?

So far, it's just been driving regularly and always using premium fuel... I haven't had any major engine issues and it's basically driven daily lately.

I use the fuel injector cleaner typically just in the first tank or three when I acquire a car as I don't know if it's had crap gas run through it previously. After that, it's just top tier fuel (Techron preferred, but we'd be hard pressed to tell- just don't cheapen out on lesser gas).

I've been a Chevron Techron fuel additive fan for many years. Most additives get panned as worthless, but Techron holds its own in the numerous reviews I've read. I purchase it during the buy-one-get-one-free sales at Advance Auto Parts and pour a bottle into the fuel tank every time I do an oil & filter change. I believe it is worth the effort....

Thanks all, Techron is what I use also. So far so good, no more issues and yes the problem occurred just after buying gas at Costco, learned my lesson!

Hi Graham, my '99 XK8 Conv requires premium. ( Hi Test) per the Jaguar manual. The 4.0 does have a hi compression ratio. Hope the fuel in your area is better than available here on Long Island, NY. The ethanol may be green, however burns poorly. Rich

Fortunately, although we pay much more for it here in Ontario, our hi-test 91 octane is free from ethanol. I even use it in our 2003 Mazda Miata. Premium costs 12 cents more per liter here (= 55 cents per Imperial gallon)

Hello, Graham.
When I filled the tank with premium 91 Octane the other day, cost was about 1.35 CAD per liter. How does that compare with cost in UK ?

Just for reference as we are now talking fuel costs:

On Maui 89 octane pure fuel, is $4.80 a gallon which is the same price as 92 octane 10% elthenol.

I normally run the 89 pure fuel but my problems started when I was lured in by $4.05 92 at Costco. Never again!

5V1900, we have similar likes in cars, I also have a 2006 MX5 Miata. Very fun car, it's my twistie mountain road car while the XK8 is for dinner and relaxation cruizer!

I realize this has drifted OT, but I, like the OP, seem to have a great running XK8. We've had the car for about 2 years now, but have never taken it on a jaunt longer than about 30 miles.

With summer fading, we decided to take a trip last week out to Galena Il which is about a 300 mile trip. As the wife an I are pulling out of the driveway my neighbor says " ooh, you're taking the Jag? Hope you don't break down" grrrr!

Anyway, it was as flawless a trip as I could imagine. The last 50 miles on RT 20 are two lane twisty hilly....great fun.

Well as the OP I have no problem with wandering topics, makes it more like sitting around the camp fire with old friends.

Anyway thanks for the post, I'm sure there are many, many more great running XK8's out there and those that have issues have this great forum as a resource.
