Repair costs
Hi All
After reading through Jaguar Technical Service Bulletin (TSB)
I have noticed that the repair time allowances for repairs are listed, when I quoted this to my local main dealer they refused to honour the time allowances and stated that the repair would take considerably longer (brake switch replacement in this case)
I would be very interested to see other peoples views on this.
A few examples
Brake switch replacement 0.2 hours
Head rest cable shortening 0.4 hours
Replace thermosat XK8 1.0 hours
If these were in actual fact the times charged I could throw away my tools and afford to get the main dealers to do the work for me.

As mentioned the 'warranty' labor times are notoriously skinny. That's one reason dealers are sometimes not overly thrilled about performing warranty repairs.
Few if any dealers actually use the warranty labor time guides for anything but actual warranty work.
This situation is not exclusive to Jaguar by any means.
Cheers

A fair estimate is WARRANTY times TIME AND A HALF.
The REAL WORLD estimates are always more than factory warranty time.
One hour warranty is really about 1.5 hours real world time.
I guess if one were to perform the same operation over and over, it could get very close to the warranty stated time allowance.
Every time we mechanics find a clever way to repair the car by finding a shortcut or make a special tool to circumvent the 'normal procedure' the warranty time is revised and a TSB is issued describing the NEW PROCEDURE.
TIME IS MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!

What is often not documented in the TSB labor times is extra time for.........
Drive-in-drive-out time.
Diagnostic time.
Other procedures authorized by Jaguar via Technical Hotline, Field Service Engineers or District Representatives.
Creative billing procedures can generate added income for the mechanic as well as the dealer.
It's sad when a pen can make more money than a toolbox. I guess it's called BUREAUCRACY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
