Default Manual air LED

Hardly a desperate problem but I'm trying to get all the little bits working and one is the red LED in the air distribution (climate control) doesn't work on the setting I use most (face + feet). Does anyone know how to get at it please?

Steve,

It's centre console out to get to the climate pack bulbs:

Do you need the details or have you been there before?

Basicly it's this... Replacing the Climate Control Bulbs on a Jaguar XK8 - YouTube You'll just have to get the correct bulbs from your local Jag dealer and then dig around it the climate controller until you find the right burned out bulb.

Are we talking night illumination, or the little red on/off led? If that's out, it's soldered to the pcb, a very small cube led.

Thanks to you all, a fantastic resource this website. It's just the red indicator LED but it annoys me!

There is another source for the incandescent bulbs, provided you're good with a soldering gun. Radio Shack 272-1092 bulbs can be soldered onto the original base. About $2/2 bulbs vs. $13/each at the dealer. Plus the Radio Shack bulbs have a 90 day warranty, whereas most dealers will probably laugh at you after day #1.

Yup, the LED is soldered on. WhiteXKR may be able to give you a source for a new red LED, he ordered and replaced a few on the auxiliary row of buttons...same type as the climate control. If you're good at soldering/desoldering, finding the correct LED should be the hardest part.

This should be a pretty good match: Digi-Key - 516-1299-ND (Manufacturer - HLMP-1340)

I would recommend changing all the red ones if you do one to match the brightness.

Thanks to all.
Are they standard wire ended LEDs as WhiteXKR suggests or a surface mount component as Sean B's 'little cube' suggests? I can get either type for peanuts from RS Components (a sort of Europe wide trade-only RadioShack).
SMC are a pig to work with particularly as my watchmaking days are, sadly, long gone.

They are standard round 3mm LEDs (Known as the T-1 package) with leads. For best results (less fading) in bright sun, you should get high efficiency, low current types with a 'water clear' lens like the originals) although the more common ones with a red plastic diffuse body will certainly work. I think the larger 5mm type (T-1 3/4) wil be too large to fit in the housing.

Excellent, thanks. I've already got a packet of them.
