Default Mercedes transmission in xk8?

Took my 2000 xk8 in for transmission problem and mechanic called to tell me it is an internal problem and that I had the Mercedes transmission, not the ford...reading online it looks like only xkr had Mercedes transmission? Is it possible for 2000 xk8 to have Mercedes transmission?

in a word, NO.

You will have the ZF 5HP24 transmission, they have a problem with the A drum, which will probably be the issue. Search the forum for the uprated part info.

Yes I know the A drum issue from reading the posts. Just trying to figure out if the transmission was replaced before I got the car ( I bought it a few months ago) or if the mechanic is giving me bad info? If the transmission was replaced could they have put a Mercedes transmission in? And would this work with the car or cause more problems? Thanks for any insight,

Anything is possible, but i think it is highly unlikely that a Mercedes transmission was put in your car if it is an XK8. The car would require a number of modifications to be made to work properly.

When I purchased by '98 XK8, I got the original window sticker with the car.

Under the "Parts Content Information", it has the following:
Major Sources of Foreign Parts Content
United Kingdom 60%
Germany 20%
And then
For this vehicle:
Country of origin, Engine Parts: United Kingdom
Transmission Parts: Germany

I assume this would be the Mercedes transmission. If it was used in '98, wouldn't it be used in 2000 as well?

It has a ZF transmission, which is also a German manufacturer. http://www.zf.com/corporate/en/homepage/homepage.html

Howdy Folks:
I am not well versed on the ZF tranny, but would a quick count of the pan bolts with a flashlight and mirror reveal the answer as the MB unit only has six?

Ok got the answer...it is the ZF. mechanic was referencing German made when he said Mercedes. He actually let me in the shop and back under the car and showed me the parts that were bad. Feel much better now thanks for all the quick responses...
