Default Microswitch / Locking Module or a bigger problem ? Need help with my ‘05 XKR.

Hello everyone, first post here so i hope i get everything right.

I have the following problem with my XKR and don’t really know where to start as other forum posts / guides seem to have similar but not the same problems, and throwing parts at the jag as troubleshooting is quite expensive.

Ever since i left my xkr standing around for a little while (1.5 months) i have the following problem:

Both passenger and drivers side windows retract a bit more than usual and don’t go up again when closing the door. Also, when the drivers door is closed on the dash it will show „drivers door open“. If I try locking the car from the outside it unlocks itself after a few seconds without opening the door and the window (drivers side) rolls down as if someone opened the door. This also results in the alarm going off.

The car starts fine and all but the battery was drained when it stood around for 1.5 months. I have already got the battery out of the car and charged it up fully but none of the problems go away.

I’d appreciate any help / ideas as to what this could be (security locking module / a specific microswitch ….??). BTW: the car is right hand drive.

Greetings from germany!

As for the windows they may need resetting. If so using drivers side switch for drivers side window lower window all the way down and hold the button for a moment then raise the window all the way up and hold for a moment. There may be an audible click at top and bottom, I'm not sure as I almost deaf. Do the same on passenger side using the button on the passenger side door.

Sounds like a classic case of an insufficient battery that will no longer accept a full charge. As you now know, these cars remain much happier and healthier when they are driven regularly. I take my wife's 2006 XK8 out at least once a week for a spirited 25-mile romp....

Many things need to be 'reset' when battery power is interrupted.
Clock. (without Nav)
Windows.
Radio. (some features like MODE)
All this is covered in the owner's manual.(the one nobody reads)

The side windows going down but not up is just resetting as JACKP says.
The other problem is likely the microswitch JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

Hi guys, thanks for all the replies.

I did not know about the battery going empty as the car sat at a shop for a month. I will try resetting the windows after having reassembled the car.

In the meantime, I have already disassembled the door lock and am going to test all the microswitches shortly. I'll keep you guys posted on any news.

Greetings and thanks for the help.

Well, as it turns out, all of the microswitches are in full working order. I’ve ordered a used but tested door lock assembly from auto reserve and after ringing through all of the switches, they all work as they are supposed to in the old lock.

I did found one rotten connector which was a green wire that went to a non-visible switch which detected if the locking mechanism itself was in the closed or open position. I am not quite sure if this could have been the source of the problem, as this switch only completes the circuit if the lock is open. If the connector is rotten, the car wouldn’t know if the door is open, so it wouldn’t give a „door open“ message, correct ?…

Who knows.

Today i will assemble the door again to a point where i can try locking it again and resetting the windows. I’ll also switch the battery for one that i know is good just in case.

So, i guess, wish me luck that i’ll get my XKR on the road again! I’ll keep you guys posted.
