Good thread. Echo the front end clearance, I have chewed up that plastic lower panel, now (temporarily) held together with black duct tape. The key issue, have killed the engine with my knee a few times. The adaptive cruise, I wish I could set the gap a bit closer, as in the lowest setting still leaves room for people to cut in front of me. All said, these are so MINOR compared to the joy this rolling art has brought me.

I absolutely hated the fact that my XK8 convertible wasnt an XKR. So I fixed the problem and bought a beautiful XKR coupe Victory edition which is just amazing except it doesn't seem to get the claimed mileage when on boost. Which is 90%
of my driving. I really love it in the morning when the temp is coming up but before it goes closed loop which yields the best power.....Zooom Zoooom !!

And the darn cup holders of course...

The headliner of my '05 XKR, which is beginning to detach above the driver's and passenger's doors. As I understand it, the only solution is to remove & replace the whole thing for about $500... pretty cheap workmanship for an expensive car.

detached headliners are more often than not due to foam degradation rather than workmanship. Climate and where the car spends it's life (ie. Garaged or not) has a lot to do with it.

I have a 198,000 mile '03 black coupe. It didn't really surprise me when the foam started going earlier this year. But with a little elbow grease I removed the head liner and got it and my A-pillars professionally recovered for around $200.

You are soooo right! I installed low profile blade wipers and rotated my wiper arms down out of view as much as possible. If you do this and raise your seat a bit you'll be able to enjoy at least a little view of the beautiful bonnet.

Let me re-phrase my complaint, then, as "cheap materials" rather than "cheap workmanship." I have a '99 Honda Accord EX with 240,000 mi & have never experienced any problem with the headliner (or the rest of the interior, for that matter). The 2005 XKR, which I bought a month ago, had 53,000 mi. on it. It had two previous owners -- a dealer lease (2 yrs) and another owner (9 yrs) who was meticulous about maintenance and always kept it garaged AND covered. It never left southern California and now resides a mile inland from Monterey Bay -- a very mild climate. I wouldn't be as annoyed about the foam disintegrating and the headliner detaching if there were a simple, inexpensive "fix" to reattach it. What I find galling is the fact that the only permanent "fix" is to remove and replace the headliner -- at significant cost.

RayR,

You'll find that these cars are expensive to repair in a variety of ways, even when you opt to DIY. Just wait until you have to R&R your suspension components and cooling system components....

The thing that bugs me is scraping my head when I get in the car. I have had neck surgery and I can't quite bend low enough to get in the car cleanly - with the top up of course. But, I can live with that. There are things you will put up with in a mistress that you never would in a wife (or a plain car).

Having to wash the car frequently due to people keep drooling over it.

Having to visit the dentist more often as the grin I have all the time driving my XKR Convertible and its wearing my teeth out, honest.

Withdrawal symptoms. That is to say the money I keep having to withdraw to keep it running.

Stiff neck from having to keep turning around to look at it whilst I am walking away from the car.

The derision I get from my wife when it (or any other of my 'fun' cars) needs fixing.

The thing that bugs me is the milage reset button. it measures from the point zeros display, not when you push it. Problem is, it takes several seconds to reset. So much for measured miles as a reference.

Oh yeah, the limited range low beam headlights. BTW don't waste your $$$ on the super bright ones for $30 more. They don't make much of a difference for me.

Not being able to see at night without high beams. Anyone know how to change headlights?

+1 on the low beam. Have you changed them?

I have the Hi-Intensity low beams that came on the XKR. I can see just fine wherever the light shines, but the upper cut-off is so abrupt that I'm essentially blind beyond that point. I too wish I could see just a little further without hitting the "brights". Using the "Fogs" helps some, but mostly just to the sides.

I drive with my fogs on too. But, it does seem like there is a black void just beyond the point where the light ends. I thought maybe that was just my debaucherous past catching up with me. ;^)
