My Motor is dead and I am going to do a motor swap with a salvage yard and Yes I have swapped before Jag motors and I was really impressed NOT one bolts snapped and or need to be drilled out even the exhaust came off.

Question Can I swap it with ANY 8cyl 4.0 in the 98-2003 Jag line or does it HAVE to be only swapped with specific XK8 line? As you know the salvage yards provide the an entire motor, wiring harness, fuel injection and etc. BUT will an XJ8 motor match the ECU etc etc in a XK8? Better selection of XJ8 motors in the US.

Although I've never done it, I'm nearly positive this will work. Besides, swap components that aren't on the new engine, will be available on your dead engine. It will work out.

I have, however, swapped an LS1 into the XK8...AND the guages still work.

 

Pardon my ignorance , but , what on earth is an LS1 ???

PS Early 4Ltr cars were fitted with AJ26 Engines and later cars AJ27 engines ,
they differ in a lot of respects .................... XJ8 and S Type engines can be similar but not directly interchangeable without some work
