Imagine you are Counsel for the Defence pleading the case for your client. He's justbroken the forum rules on advertising and facing a7 Day Ban. What is your closing arguement?
Congratulations on the new Jaguar. I'm using your post as an example of where the line is drawn on posting advertisements in Model forum. You have done exactly the right thing by listing your vehicle in MARKETPLACE and gone as far as forum rules permit by posting a link to the advert in Model forum.
Hope you get your asking price for the XK8 and the X351 is a reliable and enjoyable successor.
Having seen this car in person several times I can attest to the fact it is immaculate! Rothwell has updated it and made it much better than when it left the factory. I would love to have it myself but it's not in the cards for me at this time.
I can also attest to the attention to detail, care, and absolutely stunning condition @rothwell 's XK8 is in.... Whoever gets this car would be seriously happy.
I would make an offer if I didn't have too much crazy going on in my garage, as well as using "This one is the last" when buying Craigslist Cat.
Going to miss the Triple X100s at breakfast meetings with @Muncie6spd as well, but will be excited to see the new X351.
As a reader of Rothwell’s regular X100 Forum writings, I’ll miss his stories. I’ve followed with interest his many upgrades, and copied a few too.
Shame I’m stuck in Saudi, rather than his side of the pond, as I would consider buying it as it’s a beautifully kept car in a wide open country perfect for long distance touring.
I considered selling my xk8 after getting my new X351 also...but they're just SO different and each has its own unique 'feel'. When it's sunny and I need a rush of fresh air, I always walk to the xk8. After owning it for almost 14 years, I just can't let her go for the meager amount of money I was told it was worth a while back ($1000 from a dealership). I'll keep living in homes with 3 garages, build one if I can't find a house that does, or store it in the winter, if necessary. I've committed to the long term ownership, it seems. I imagine it will be hard for you as well to see it go. Selling it to a forum member would ease some of the burden. I wish you good luck!
Well I finally got around to listing the XK8 for sale last week.
Sold it in a few days to the first person that came to see it.
New owner is a great guy, a vintage British car enthusiast, and very happy.
I am very happy it did not go to a drug dealer with a penchant for 24" rims.
I want to express a sincere Thank You to everyone who participates and contributes to the collective knowledge here. It was invaluable in my DIY efforts of caring for the XK8.
I have some new/used parts and tools left over from the XK8. After my local XK8 buddies get what they want I will be listing the rest in the marketplace.
I expect I will be mostly in the X351 forum for the near future.
What a shame. An X351 and an XK8/R can coexist quite nicely:
I agree they can for sure. Just not for me now that we have downsized twice and my garage space is at 60% of what it was when I got the XK8.
Also sold my 1997 Triumph T595 which was as nice as my XK8.
Now that I am 60 perhaps my priorities are changing?
Regardless we had a great run with the XK8. Drove it exclusively for over 7 years and 70K miles all over the eastern US, mostly with top down.
I was curious so I did some quick math, added up total outlaid cost for the car/parts/tires/etc., subtracted what was recovered from the sale, and found that the XK8 cost us (excluding fuel and insurance) approx $165 a month to own and drive. Obviously there was a lot of my time invested but that was recreation for me.
So the X351 fits nicely in the garage now and I can start tinkering with it. Fun times ahead.
I'm glad you got it sold but I will miss seeing it at our get togethers. Such a great car with all your improvements, the new owner is lucky to have it.
