My old engine noise, new video.
Our XK8 has had this noise for the past two years, it lasts for the first minute of driving from cold, it is tricky to hear at idle and light throttle but is fairly loud at about 50% throttle. So I generally never do this till after a minute or so.
I have tried making videos showing the sound before but they never worked out, this time I used the youtube editor to cut the base and increase the treble so the sound is more clear.
I'm in the process of checking valve clearances and will report back on that soon.
Please let me know if you have any idea what it may be.

Well I have finally found the cause of the noise, from inside the car it always sounded like it was coming from the right bulkhead area rather than the engine.
This is the egr pipe, I noticed the brown discoloured patch on the sheath after removing the heat shield.
And on closer inspection found this crack.
My assumption is that as the pipe heated up and expanded after a minute or so, the crack closed up and the noise stopped.
I am very please to have found the problem after putting up with it for 3 years.

I am pretty sure I have this issue as well. From cold start I get what sounds like an exhaust leak under load for the first few minutes and then it is fine. No codes.
My car is a 2000 XKR with 117,000km.
2 questions if I may.
Did your welding repair hold up or did you have to resort to a new pipe?
How long does the job take and is it difficult? I read the bullitin and it seems pretty straight forward.
Thanks
Bryan
