Default My XK8 video diary and woes...

I thought it might be good to put together a run down of all the things wrong I've discovered in my 1998 XK8 Convertible (So far)...It covers most of the things I've been compiling and asking about on this fantastic forum!

I didn't think it would be this long!

To skip to the noise that's really bugging me at the moment click here, I've been asking a lot in this forum about it:

I'd love some words of advice (encouragement!)

Thanks!
Dickie

Engine noise sounds like it may be the a/c compressor clutch. Remove the drive belt and see if it goes away

Hello Dickie!
Where do you live?...Is it Houston or California? If it's Houston, let me know and I will be glad to give you some Help!

Hi,
Seems the PO has left you with quite a collection of annoying issues

The large washer you found on the ground belongs on the tensioner pulley - just behind the bolt head.

Sybesma is the company that repairs the rear view mirror. If you do a search on the name you will find quite a few posts, and I *think* there is a Toyota equivalent also. I'd be tempted to remove yours now it's failing as the internal 'goo' can leak out onto the console and play havoc with the veneer trim. Go easy when you do this.
I guess you've already come across the 'green shower' roof/hood hydraulic fail in your searches.

The door handle/armrest is fixed to the door card with a couple of cheesehead (not sure what the correct term is?) bolts. See this video for removing the door card and beware the Jaguar plastic card fasteners. They are old and brittle by now:

You will certainly do no harm with a trans fluid drain/fill and new filter. The 'official' Jaguar fluid is LT71141, but be guided by the good folks on here on alternatives. Consider replacing the main pressure valve 'while you're in there'. What is the mileage?
