Default Mystery part?

Hope you all can help me solve a mystery. I had to change my motor mounts on my 98 xk8. To get the clearance on the left, I loosened the rack. When I did, this piece fell out. I have no clue where it goes. What is it? Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Anyone know what this is?

It looks like a special tool used to tighten something which has been dropped down the back of the engine and has now dropped out

I don't recognise it, but it looks like an aftermarket tool that would fit the Oil filler cap or perhaps the header tank cap - to help release. Not that it is necessary...

That's an impressive piece of detective work!

Image added here because it's likely to disappear from Amazon.

Some mechanic probably spent a long time looking for that 'lost-tool' and finally gave up.
