Default Nav unit must be mad at me!

RE: 01 XKR

My nav unit must be mad at me as it works just fine except it does not talk to me. It will speak if I press the 'repeat' button, but will not verbally give me directions automatically. I have gone through the booklet and adjusted the volume on the nav unit and via the radio controls. Has anyone an idea what I may have missed on setting it up?

Hey Lew, don't forget, there is an option in the NAV system itself, go into the settings and look for the option for an option that shows the 'level of assistance', i can't remember the actual menu item, as i would have to get my old head unit out of the attic to hook it up and get it up and running. I think there are three or four settings, Max gives you frequent updates as to where to go next, down to low which yours is probably set on, where it doesn't give any instruction, unless of course you hit the repeat button. Check that out and let me know what you find.

Thanks! I'll get out my Nav booklet and see if I can find it. Been under the weather lately, so might take a day or two. I'll let you know if I find it.

Assistance is set at maximum. Something not set right in the radio maybe?

Darn, thought that would be your problem lew. There has to be a way to 'reset' the nav system, some procedure to make it reinstall the software or something. Can't be anything else I can think of in terms of a setting. Do you have access to another NAV disc, i say install another version (older or newer) than reinstall your current disc. I'd be happy to help if I can..send you mine I would.

I have the latest version. Jag-Genius mentioned a 'shadow disc' that dealers have. I wonder if that would work?

If you have the latest, will 'downgrading' the software, then reinstalling the new disc help perhaps? Well, send jag-genious a PM and see what he says.

If the car is an 05, is it still covered under warranty ?

I went through the radio NAV settings and all is at MAX. I guess it just does not like me! I have a Garmin Nuvi and it is easier to set it up ahead of time and just turn it on when I get in the car. Would be nice to have OEM NAV available though.

Sorry Lew. Next time you are near a Jag dealer, stop by and have them take a quick look, my service guy is great at just taking a few minutes to troubleshoot small problems like this. You'll get some help...for free I bet. Just tell them your ride is being stubborn and won't talk to you. Where is your nearest dealership?

Hennessey Jaguar.(Buckhead, Atlanta, GA) They haven't been very responsive to helping without a 1hr minimum diagnostics fee.
