I'd start with cleaning the DVD, then the DVD player as these are simple items. After that I would borrow / buy another GPS disc to see if another disk works, as many people have had issues that were solved by using another disk (as their old one got scratched, worn, etc...). If after that, I would either wipe the GPS (through a dealer wipe disc) or buy a used Navigation unit on eBay specifically from an XK8/XKR (even though the XJ8/XJR's have the same part number- they different and incompatible firmware loaded).

I would say it is likely related to that install. There are many threads on adding additional items to the Alpine Ai-net system. There are only certain areas, wires, and signal strengths that work. Also what may work in a model one year on one car, other people sometimes cannot duplicate to a model in another year even though all components seems the same, or very similar.

Actually, it sounds pretty much exactly as what the Navi in my Jag was like when the radio was locked. Says "press enter", but pressing enter does nothing at all. It was just constantly stuck at the leaper logo.
I finally managed to recover my radio code today, cost me $20. Navi started working as soon as I had unlocked the radio.
