Is it possible to retro fit a 1998 XK8 with a navigation system ( OEM) from say a 2001 XK8. Do they sell the kits or do you have to purchase parts separate. Like the Dash wood inlay to replace the oil, batt and temp gauge panel and all. I wanted to put a factory looking nav in it. Any guess on cost?

The '01 system is an antique with no updates or support. It is 11 years old and cannot and has not been updated since then. Mine still works and does find main streets and old POIs. It's hard to believe this system was dropped cold not allowing any updates.

 

I agree. My 2001 is all but non-functional as far as a GPS. Since I do not wear a watch, the only time I turn the Nav System on is when I want to see what time it is.

I have to agree with SPGarnes and Bill Get a Garvin or another aftermarket gps. I got a Garvin and it's great.

 

Enjoy the utulity and classic look of your 3-gauges. I have had many customers purchase my conversion cable achieve exactly what you have!

Buy a touch screen portable GPS, mount it on a matching leather Kuda mount (KUDA OEM leather iPhone GPS Mount for JAGUAR XK (97-06) black) and hide the power adapter in the shell of the mount, tapping power from the cigarette lighter circuit nearby. It is a clean looking, up to date solution and is completely reversable.

 

You would also be better served just having a bluetooth/aux adapter installed (also a whiteXKR custom part) and using your phone for the navigation screen and letting the audio instructions 'mute' in on the stereo, enabling the streaming capabilities of your phone too.

I took whiteXKR's advice on the Kuda mount, but didn't do any drilling, I only use it to 'hold' my phone in place and at the correct angle for viewing. I put a supermagnet underneath the mount, and a few small, thin washers on the inside of my phone's back cover...never moves on the Kuda while driving. Have a look.
