Need a broken Nav. Unit or I will have to kill mine
Hi all,
As part of my Audio/Navigation upgrade I am going to remove the factory Navigation Unit that came stock in my 2002 XKR. I plan on using the factory buttons, but wired to other devices, so I will need to cut them off the factory unit. I want my modifications to look as close to factory as possible.
I hate to destroy a working Nav unit, but I will if I have to. So, if anyone out there has a broken Nav Unit, the part in the dash, I would be willing to purchase it from you.
Thanks.

Yah, that's a pricey part...got a couple estimates from salvage yards. Only way you'll be able to score one is to find one with a busted screen...i'd try to go through the carpart.com site, and make a custom part request search for a damaged unit. They rarely break or have electronic problems.
WhiteXKR has done alot of theoretical modifications for the nav's buttons, using the on/off etc for different functions (I asked him for one myself), perhaps he can help you with the planning, w/o destroying a perfectly good unit?

I have rewired numerous buttons for use in other projects in the past, so that part is easy. I am replacing the Nav Screen with another device, so the whole unit will have to come out. But, I want to leave the original buttons there to have the factory appearance.
I suppose, if I am careful, I can cut the button section off so that they could be reattached if needed. The seam for the cut would be hidden behind the wood trim.
I will check carpart.com to see what they have. Thanks.
I want to keep the car looking factory as well as keep all of the original parts, in case I ever wanted to return it to stock or sell it to someone who does.
