Need help removing alternator - stuck!
Hi guys, I tried to replace my alternator today, removed both the upper bolt and lower bolt and washer, but the damn thing is stuck! It just pivots on the bottom - I've tried pulling, pushing, prying, even lightly hammering but it won't come loose!
Any ideas or tricks to this thing?

I feel your pain pomosv. Had the same problem when I changed mine. What you have to get past is a metal bushing (sleeve?) that is inside the top bolt hole on the left side. If it has slid past its normal spot, it will not allow the alternator to come out. It doesn't have much travel room, so it is likely only holding it with 1/32th or less.
Cure for me was a short prise bar and aggressive leverage. This was after trying to tap the bushing back in from the other end of the hole (no joy). You do need to be careful not to break off the ears on the mounting bracket. Rocking it while I prised on it seemed to help.
Make sure you push the bushing back in properly when you reinstall.
Found the link to my original problem thread...it has pictures. Hope this helps. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...oud-r-i-78238/

Thanks guys, got the new alternator in, but one last question - the guide I'm reading (posted by jag 4) calls for a securing a "suppression module" nut, but I don't see any such cable and don't think I remember removing one last night...
Does the XKR have a "suppression module"? I have the alternator in and connected the 1. harness, 2. the positive cable under the boot - is that it or am I missing something?
Thanks

The Suppression Module harness connections are items 1 and 2:
Reconnection procedure is:
1. connect the negative cable to the generator negative terminal. Fit and tighten the terminal nut.
2. secure the suppression module positive cable and main positive cable to the generator positive terminal.
3. fit the boot to the terminal.
4. reconnect the generator harness multi-plug.
Can't see any reason why XKR would be different from XK8 in this respect.

Thank you Graham, I saw this in the 2002 XK JTIS but the thing is I don't see items 1 and 2 per the above diagram on my car; I only see items 3 (harness plug) and 4 (cable with boot).
I also looked at the JTIS for 2003 XK and see that items 1 and 2 are not present. I'm thinking maybe my car was made at the time of transition to a new alternator without the "suppression module"?
Anyways, I closed everything back up and the car runs fine, without any issues as far as I can see...

As it's there to suppress noise in the Audio System, the Alternator will work perfectly well without it but you may get an annoying whine coming through the speakers when listening to the radio.
