I put Bilstein shocks on my 96 XJS and they were fantastic. Improved the ride and handling tremendously. They are a very good quality shock/strut in my opinion.

I needed front shocks. After a pretty extensive search,I concludedthat Bilsteins were the best overall for a stock setup like mine. I have a '97 and Bilsteins were fitted from the factory.I paid approx $95 each from Turner Motorsports throught Shocks.com.

If you haveCAT suspension [auto adjustable shocks], then your options are limited to OEM; and the price you'll have to pay is a lot more than regular Bilsteins.

I am also looking at replacing the shock/struts on my 2000 XK8. The ride is terrible in the sense that it is very harsh. You feel every minor bump in the road and evern feel the different texture in the road surface. From every thing I have read so far is that Bilsteins are the best. I used those on the rear of my XJ6 and they were fine with no problems. Very interested in any comments regarding ride quality on these cars.

I have a 2001 XKR that I think needs new shocks--I have CATs shocks now--Can I replace with Bilsteins w/o CATS and will that cause an error code if I do??

All you will have to do is unplug the control module in the boot. With it disconnected there will be no errors and none of the other system interacts with CATS.

Charlie
Where is the control module located? Since I upgraded my laptop, my JTIS discs wont work so I have no manual to peruse. I assume you dont mean just unplugging the shock.

Thanks

It is in the tire well, at the far rear against the bumper toward the right hand side (nearest the battery). When you lift up the tire cover you can see the top of the control box and the connector attaches to the bottom.

It's a small black box, maybe 4x6x1" that is held on by two 10mm nuts. The connector is long and narrow, with 35pins.

The first time you undo the connector it's easiest if you unbolt the module first so you can look at it. The connector hooks into one side and rotates down to latch. Hard to explain but it will make complete sense when you see it

Here is the pic from JTIS.

Battery to the top so I guess the perspective is what you would see if you were 1 foot tall, standing in the boot and facing to the right side of the car.
