Need Rear Shocks and seat covers - 1997 XK8 Convertible
A Merry Belated Christmas to all
,
I am about to swap out the rear shocks on my 1997 XK8 Convertible. Research to date shows me that the Bilstein Comfort ride is the best option. Although I am a Canadian I will be ordering my shocks while temporarily in Texas.
Am I correct in assuming that the bottom bushing and other upper mounting bits and pieces come with the shock?
Are there any other parts that I should replace while the shock is removed?
The door side bolster of the driver's leather seat is badly cracked. It was recently died but it is already evident that it is only a matter of time before it splits.
Not being lovers of leather seats, my wife and I would be quite happy to cover the front seats with quality seat covers.
Can you suggest suitable vendors to us? We want something that fits well, won't stretch, and is easily cleaned to remove inevitable soiling.
Thanks for your help,
Preston

You'll likely find your bump stops have perished and your upper spring insolaters are toast as well. I'll bet your springs are starting to sag but that is a judgment call. You have to drop the rear end remove the springs to get the shocks out, if you replace all of that (assuming no rust at any of the mounting points) you should be good to go for another 100K.

Thank you for your recommendation re rear shocks
My mechanic is very meticulous so I am sure that all components other than the shocks are in good shape.
At the moment my plan is to replace the rear shocks with the Bilstein B4 Touring shocks ($107.25 per)and KYB coil spring isolaters ($28.35 per) from Parts Geek.
To the forum at large - does anyone think I am on the wrong track?
Thanks all
