Default need to remove the rear bumper

Does anyone have a "how to"?

I think a bit of rust protection on he inside of the rear wings would be a good idea. I spotted some paint blisters.

Hi Rd,
If you have bubbles/blisters just above the rear bumper and running parallel with it ............. the problem is normally caused by mud and dirt thown up by the rear wheels and holding the rubber flaps (fitted for boot venting when the boot lid is shut) partly open , the wet dirt and mud builds up causing rusting from the inside out , not a cheap job to fix properly as the area's affected need to be cut out and new metal let in ,
I'd guess that your car isn't fitted with mud flaps as cars equipped with flaps don't seem to be a problem in this area , when the rust is rectified don't forget to remove the vents , clean them well and make sure the rubber flap seals adequately ,

Hope this helps ,

Nik

Procedure is much the same for all years:

JTIS - 2004 Rear Bumper Cover 76 22 77.pdf

The two hexagon bolts holding the bumper cover to the beam can be seriously difficult to undo.

Here are a couple of pics.

Area 1 may be surface issues, previously painted over, I'm more worried about area 2, there are also a few small ones around 2 that don't show up.

After removing the inner wheel arch there was not much to see but it feels like the wing is double skinned which is bad news.

It will probably be a few weeks bbefore I can get the bumper off for a better look.

You need to check inside the car, remove the boot carpet and feel/look down into the well, you will probably find something like this....
