Default Need to replace security module on '04 XKR

Hi all. Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but if it has I can't find it.

Both remote fobs on my XKR have stopped working at the same time. Obviously I changed the batteries first and attempted to reprogram them using advice from here - they still wouldn't work.
I booked them into a well recommended Jag Independent, who concluded that the remotes were working "but wouldn't pair with the vehicle". Their advice was to buy a new remote from Jaguar and bring it to them for them to reprogram. Logic said to me that it was more likely to be whatever in the car the fobs talk to that was playing up, so I bit the bullet, got some mortgage application forms and booked the car in with the local Jag main dealer.

200 quid later they told me that they had:

Tried the remotes - not working (wish I'd thought of that)
Tested the batteries - working
Tested the remotes - functioning correctly
Attempted to reprogram fobs - will not reprogram
Required: new Security Locking Module - PART UNAVAILABLE.

I spoke to the "technician" (mechanic?) who worked on the car. He said that he had removed the module, checked the contacts and checked inside for corrosion (common apparently), but could see nothing wrong. I asked him about acquiring one from a scrap vehicle, he rubbed his chin and took a deep intake of breath - "Can't guarantee that it will reprogram".

So...what do I do? I work in the defence industry and have access to some pretty s**thot electronics engineers. Is it worth getting them to see if it's salvageable. Is it really difficult to reprogram a scrap one?

Any advice appreciated please.

Thanks
Steve

If you do a search on this forum you will find other people with the same problem - some were fixed by repairing the module:-

I would certainly take it apart and have a look inside for anything obvious.

So, the dealer mechanic did not offer the results of the computer diagnostics for this? Seems to me that a bad module would offer some messages. Can you reach out to them again and ask for this? Specific codes are great for search engines!

Thanks for the replies - They said that there were no fault codes logged.

Have you cleaned the inside of your rear window recently?

The symptoms you describe CAN result from dislodging the press-on security system aerial connector at the top of the heated rear window on the coupe.

Thanks Graham. I'll check that when I'm home in a day or two.

There are firms that rebuild some modules - maybe that one - if it's actually needed.

I have one, part number LJE2600BD, bought off Ebay a couple of years back. My specialist told me I needed it to fix my "check rear lights" dash warning but then fixed that with a new brake pedal switch so didn't try it & I can't guarantee it. My Email is on my website if you'd like it.

Thanks John. I'd need to check that part No against mine. I have a feeling the module is different for the Coupe. Anyone?

Does anyone know what else this module does please. I have one on the way (thanks JonWat) but want to make sure I'm not solving one problem and introducing another.

Thanks.

The module also monitors the rear lights in order to trigger a warning if there is a failed bulb.

If you download the electrical guide for your car you can have a look yourself to see what it connects to.
