I don't recognize the term stip - I've seen way too many Queen's English vs American English to just assume it's a typo so I'll ask: What does it mean mate?

Looks straightforward to take off, I need to tighten mine where it swivels. Remove the cover, pulll off by hand. There is a bolt holding the mirror to the door. The rest I will do indoors. Hopefully it isn't sealed.

I understand the XK & XJ door mirrors are the same? I have an XJ (Driver's side - RH) mirror here with a broken mirror seating but all else is ok. It has swivelling gears in it for parking.

What's the prob with yours RD? I'll take mine to bits for pics (or just stuff the 'guts' in a Jiffy Bag and send it to you!)

Thanks for the offer Jim, I'm not sure what I need yet, I have a second hand mirror arriving tomorrow but I am not sure what features is has, my one with the damaged bracket had the fold feature.

I was just trying to strip mine down ahead of time in case I needed to swap any parts/electrics over.

I was able to remove the mirror and its motor mechanism.

The problem is trying to separate the two sections connected by the fold hinge/motor mechanism.

I worked out that I need to get these two torx bolts out but they are stuck fast to the point of twisting the torx bit. I think I will need to drill them out if I have to.

I'll wait and see now what turns up before doing any more though.
