Default New A/C compressor with code 22

I replaced the A/C compressor with a remanufacture. Replacement was due to a short in the clutch of the old unit that was blowing the fuse. The problem was confirmed when the old unit was removed. The new unit was installed, vacuumed, recharged with 134A and 3.5-4 oz of PAG100 oil besides whatever came in the new compressor. The AC turns off after about 5 seconds and the climate control self diagnostics returns code 22, which is compressor lock error - low charge, low oil, harness problem. None of these seem to be the problem. I have cleared the code multiple times and repeated the system recharge once. Has anyone experienced this or have any idea where to look next?

How much freon did you put in? What is your static pressure? What are your high/low gauge readings while running that 5 seconds?

The pressure sensor has a history of failure also. If you are seeing 35+ psi static and it is giving you a low pressure shutdown I would consider replacing the sensor (located in the line at the bottom center of the radiator). You can also jumper the connection to the sensor as a diagnostic test. Here is the schematic for the compressor, sensor and AC relay.

Here again, someone doesn't supply all the information we really need to try to help!

Based on your description, I would guess you have a 1997 car. Through the '97 model year the compressor had a lock sensor, which is very similar to an ABS wheel speed sensor. It was there to protect the belt should the compressor start to seize, mainly because that compressor was also used on the V12 and the belt there also ran the power steering. My guess is your aftermarket compressor does not have the lock sensor, so the ACCM thinks it is open circuited.

Just an assumption based on the info given.

Good luck!

Smile Problem found

Thank you all for your input and I will try to provide more complete info in future requests.

The problem was the replacement compressor had a similar electrical connector for the sensor but not exact and was not making the connection. I replaced the connector with the one off the old compressor and everything works fine now.

Thanks for the update on the resolution. Others may experience the same problem.
