Actually several has successfully replaced only the doughnut section. The doughnut is a separate piece even in the OEM version, so once disassembled it is just a swap out with the right material.

Search the threads. One or two that show how to do this.

Mike,
Many thanks for rectifying the failure on my side to search hard enough!
Some interesting alternatives - and thanks for documenting your version so clearly.

If anyone wants a shortcut to more info, here are the threads I found most relevant (there are probably more!)

[QUOTE=JohnT;1029727]Some flavour of this project is almost certainly on my future action plan, so I've been reading all the posts with interest!

Maybe a silly question, but given the second picture in the original post which seems to show you can disassemble the upper front shock mount, has anyone tried to find a source that would allow us to just replace the shrinking doughnut, rather than the complete upper mount? I assume that others have had the same thought, and either failed to find a vendor, or discarded the idea for reasons that I am probably about to be enlightened with![/QUOTE

Here you go. Try Motorcars LTD for the parts you had asked for. NOT! You rebuild the upper shock mounts yourself. They did not last me 10,000 miles. I paid quite a bit for what I had got from them years ago.
