Default New LJA 6229 BA Convertible switch

One of the mechanics who works on my 2006 XK8 damaged the convertible top switch and the tray holder. I ordered new Jaguar parts. There was a metal U shaped bracket inside the compartment when I removed the broken parts. Can anyone tell me how that piece is used? The new switch clips into place on the new tray and then snaps into place. I can't seem to get the metal bracket to attach.

Thanks for any assistance you can offer!

Goodness knows I've had my trim oft enough and I SHOULD know-know, but from memory I thought there was a small metal support/surround that made sure the plastic bits of the switch stayed put and it's plastic tabs got a little added support/strength... Got a photo or two of the underside of the console trim? And the clip

Are you sure the switch was broken?

Mine was pushed down too hard and had slipped below the trim...I removed the coin holder tray and switch enclosure, thinking I'd need a new switch. But I fiddled with he switch to get it out of the housing and it seemed to pop back into alignment and works fine now!
