New MAF, now cuts out immediately after starting
I was just too pleased with myself earlier today after fitting my new "ebay" MAF, the g/s reading is now exactly what I would expect.
However I have now found that the car cuts out immediately after starting, then starts on the second start with a bit of throttle. I can then immediately smell unburnt fuel. There is no sign of an issue at any other time.
The new maf is a no name from here Air Flow Mass Meter Sensor for SUBARU MAZDA JAGUAR XK XJ MAF 22680-AA310 | eBay
I'll swap back on the old one and see what happens.
UPDATE
Old MAF back in and it started perfectly, I'm now suspecting there is a difference between the 4.0 and the 4.2 MAF, I thought I had checked the numbers and found them to be the same.

Just bought this Denso one as I have a 30% discount code for these guys, it is listed as an Xtype but with the same Denso code as the original one in my car.

At that price I'm guessing this is a MAF originally sourced from china. They are good fakes I bought one and had similar problems. They just dont cut it. I had same error codes. When a bought an OEM one codes went away.
With the one I got I would get the lean codes car would start and run OK but under hard acceleration the codes would come back.

Went the same way for MAF replacement. My car did the same thing complete with black smoke. Compared the old and the new and there were two different coloured pins on the old vs the new. Ended up getting one from a dealer and voila....purrs like she should.
Ok I got my new Denso MAF today with identical markings to the original, plugged it is and so far everything is working well, starts are as normal.
The peak MAF reading is 225g/s which still does seem low to me, I would have expected closer to 240g/s. Then again I have never seen a MAF reading from any other 4.2 XK8 yet.
