new rebuilt 5hp24 gearbox flaring between 2nd and 3rd gear
Great article on the A8 trans ( same as ZF used in older XK8). The end of the article speaks of the pressure regulator valve or bore which can cause pressure spikes as well as blown ft drum. Symptoms my ZF trans is experience. I've had the fluid changed ( nasty color, overheated, without metal parts or excessive clutch material). the service did wonders for about a month. I've ordered a new special regulator valve for the valve body from Trans Go which boasts will do the repair even with scored valve bore. I plan on full synthetic fluid as the article recommends as well. I'll let you know the results. Rich

Whether or not it relates to your problem, it does show what is involved with a proper approach to troubleshooting, and that approach would be similar I would think.

These are all great ideas but all the articles and tsb's i have found are for tranny's that are wearing out mine is newly rebuilt with less than a thousand miles on it, my tc is also freshly rebuilt and with jag approved synthetic fluid.
I would suggest calling ZF they have a web page that you can get the number and ask for tech assistance. Let them know what you had done and your problem and they should be able to help. I had a lot of luck with them.
